What’s this page about?
This is a blog; thus, no matter how much I’d like to say, “This is a blog about Life in China,” or something equally dramatic, the reality is that this page is primarily about me. Some of it will be about my life in China, granted, but much of it will also be about food, weather, books, music, toilets*, and similar trivia. Yes, I’ll be living in China while most of this is written, but I’m essentially a dull person, just as much so in China as in America. So you’ll be happiest reading my posts if a) you know me, haven’t gotten an email for a while and are wondering what I’m doing and thinking about what I’m doing, or b) you really enjoy reading what someone you don’t know thinks about things you probably don’t think are necessarily much worth thinking about. Either way, welcome.
*If you don’t know why toilets are on the list, you haven’t spent much time in Asia.
And who are you then?
I’m a US citizen and sometime ex-pat, born and bred in Maryland, and heading back to China for my second year. In 2006-2007, I lived in Shenzhen, where I worked teaching English as a Foreign Language, and am heading back for my second year (though to a better district and hopefully a better job this time). My current Chinese name is Chang Huzi, which is more a joke than a name (i.e., Wo jiao Chang huzi yinwei renjia kan wo, shuo, “A, chang huzi“); it was either that or Wai Guoren. For those wondering, yes, I’m studying Mandarin, and yes, I’m horrible at it.
